CITYWAVE: Italian Flag Raised on CityLife’s New Iconic Building

On April 9, the traditional Italian flag-raising ceremony was held at the CityWave construction site in CityLife, Milan—marking the completion of the building’s main structure and the beginning of a new phase in its development.

CITYWAVE: Italian Flag Raised on CityLife’s New Iconic Building

The ceremony was attended by Giuseppe Sala, Mayor of Milan; Aldo Mazzocco, CEO of Generali Real Estate and Chairman of CityLife S.p.A.; Paolo Micucci, CEO of CityLife S.p.A.; Philippe Donnet, CEO of Generali Group; Linwood Bradford, CEO of Generali Investments; Simone Bemporad, Group Chief Communications & Public Affairs Officer, Generali; Marco Beccati, Technical Director of the CityWave project; and Bjarke Ingels, founder of the internationally renowned architecture firm BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group.

With its distinctive profile and a design focused on sustainability and quality of life, CityWave is set to become a next-generation office building—completing, without competing with, the skyline of the iconic CityLife district, home to the Three Towers.

The CityWave project, designed by BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group, was the winning entry in a design competition that involved six leading international architecture firms.

The building’s design and construction are the result of close collaboration between the CityLife technical team—led by engineer Marco Beccati—and architect Bjarke Ingels, along with contributions from top international engineering experts in structural systems, MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing), materials research, and wind tunnel testing.

The key firms involved in the various phases of the project include:
 • Architecture: BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group
 • Structural Engineering: Holzner Bertagnolli Engineering
 • MEP Systems: Manens S.p.A.
 • Façades: Faces
 • Construction Management: Proiter
 • Fire Safety: Engineer Mistretta

Construction began in August 2023, and the building is being delivered by a Temporary Joint Venture (ATI) formed by Colombo Costruzioni and CMB. Completion is scheduled for 2026.

CityWave stands out as a unique project in terms of architecture, engineering, and environmental sustainability—an innovative addition to the evolving CityLife landscape.
